Shekhar Kapur`s next, a short film in NEW YORK I LOVE YOU, is dedicated to late Anthony Minghella who wrote the script of this segment and who had intended to direct it but passed away before NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU was completed. As Minghella tragically became ill in the midst of the project, he chose his own replacement director, going in a rather unexpected direction.
The producer -Benbihy recalls, "It was Anthony who brought up Shekhar Kapur. They had a long conversation about life and death, Anthony only wanted Shekhar to do his segment because of his different approach and was sure Shekhar would be very true to his own vision. We were lucky that Shekhar was available and said yes."
Shekhar Kapur was hesitant to do this film at first, but because of friend Anthony Minghela`s illness and because of an interest in directing short films, he immediately agreed and left for New York.
