LAHORE – Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s efforts to fulfil his political ambitions are dimming, as majority of his former colleagues do not foresee any political role of Musharraf in future, while they also oppose contacts of their partymen with him.
However, some of them support him, visualising a vacuum in political sphere of the country, TheNation has learnt.
Musharraf in a bid to accomplish his political plans met with his former colleagues in Dubai and asked them to muster support for him by persuading his old colleagues back home to assemble under one umbrella.
However, many of his old colleagues in PML-Q, PML-Q (like-minded group) and other sidelined
Muslim Leaguers not only opposed the contacts of their partymen with Musharraf but also disowned their meetings in Dubai by saying they would seek an explanation from all those who saw Musharraf in Dubai, informed insiders in the stated factions of Leagues quoting senior party leaders.
Insiders in Musharraf’s camp told this scribe from Dubai on Tuesday that former president met with several politicians belonging to PML-Q (like-minded group) and PML-Q including Raza Hayat Hiraj, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Ameer Muqam, Ch Shahbaz, Ishaq Khakwani, Raees Munir Ahmed, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Lala Nisar Khan, Syed Charag-ud-Din, Hamid Nasir Chattha and Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, Asjad Malhi, Maj-Gen (r) Rashid Qureshi and Dr Amjad Hussain besides former secretary election commission Kunwar Dilshad.
Musharraf, it is stated also had talked to Pir of Pagaro on telephone to discuss the possibilities of his role in politics.
Without divulging the names, the insiders claimed that some key figures of two major parties also called on Musharraf in Dubai. Musharraf has nominated Ch Shahbaz as chief coordinator, Pakistan of his party ‘All Pakistan Muslim League’ besides constituting a five-member delegation comprising Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, Ch Shahbaz, Barrister Muhammad Saif, Dr Amjad and Fawad Chaudary who would meet Pir of Pagaro by the end of this month to discuss the political future of Musharraf in the backdrop of former president’s conversation with Pir of Pagaro, revealed the insiders.
Insiders claimed that Hamid Nasir Chattha, Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri and Pir of Pagaro told Musharraf that they foresee his role in country’s politics in the times to come.
