Based on a leaked screen shot of Vodafone`s computer systems, the HTC Desire Z and Desire HD are two more Android handsets that are coming down the pike. Formerly known as the Vision, the HTC Desire Z will be similar to the current HTC Desire, but will include a side sliding QWERTY keyboard.

HTC announced Tuesday that it`s launching its own name brand of smartphones in China, with four phones set to take the stage this year. Although the mobile phone maker already holds a presence in the Chinese market, its phones there have previously been sold under the Dopod brand. Bob Egan is an electromagnetic engineer who calls himself a "mobile expert". Coming to the defense of Apple and the iPhone 4, Egan claims that the tests conducted by Consumer Reports, which allegedly prove that the iPhone 4 has a reception problem not caused by the AT&T network, is flawed. A whopping 41% revealed in a survey that they are most often getting only EDGE, or even GPRS signal.Furthermore, where 3G coverage is present, the speeds are pathetic, and making them reluctant to even use social networking on the go. More than a half of the people surveyed report their 3G speeds are better suited for mobile site versions and dedicated apps rather than the full-blown experience, so that`s what they`ve been using mostly. Powering up just one color channel on your Android device`s organic LED display can help save your battery life. Android engineer Jeff Sharkey was able to hack his phone to allow for one color channel to be powered at a time. Using an industrial power meter, he was able to determine which color saved the most battery power.It turns out, red is the color that helps you extend your battery life the most. He said, "Filtering to show only red pixels only requires 35% of the original baseline OLED panel current, on average. Adding back the baseline current, the best case overall is about 42% of the original system current, effectively doubling the battery life. Click here more news

To that end, the company has posted on its web site a job opening for an Android Video Playback Expert. The job description explains that the company is seeking a great engineer to help them build "Instant Streaming client implementations on Android devices."

As we reported recently, the pair of KIN phones offered through Verizon have not exactly been setting sales records. At least, not the positive ones. A few weeks ago, reports were circulating that Big Red had sold a whopping 500 units and while that has not been confirmed by Verizon or Microsoft (if you were either firm, would you confirm it?) the phones have certainly been a disappointment to both.

Google recently used its right to remove an installed app from Android phones and the Android Market to get rid of an application that was basically a Trojan Horse. Designed to appear like an app with pictures from the upcoming Twilight Eclipse movie, the app was listed by Jon Oberheide from a security startup, Scio Security.
