If anyone is there to replace former chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and mimic what he did to Pakistan People’s Party during his ultra-active judicial spree, it is Justice Jawad S Khawaja. He is one of the closet aide of the former CJP and has shown his allegiance to him on several occasions.

CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also always preferred to keep Jawad S Khawaja in his bench or any bench which was important to us in which he couldn’t sit. Khawaja made sure he also show the same crazy activism shown by the boss Iftikhar Chaudhry.

PPP government was corrupt, inept and inefficient but its also true that they were also gridlocked by the suo moto actions by the Iftikhar Chaudhry, who even sent one of their prime minister sent packing on a fishy contempt notice and never looked back.

Once Justice Jawad S. Khawaja remarked during a case proceeding that he thought Iftikhar Chaudhry was kind of some saint. Such was the loyalty and allegiance of Khawaja with Chaudhry. It was evident at that time that whenever Khawaja got the chance, he will surpass his idol Chaudhry.

The bad luck of PML-N is that Jawad Khawaja is hearing very important cases these days and he is already flexing his muscles and all set to become a pain in the back for the PML-N. Khawaja has already hinted at possibility of disrupting the executive domain.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja is hearing the case about local bodies elections not being held in the cantt areas of Pakistan. Now the bench is seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the prime minister for not holding the local bodies elections in the cantonment boards countrywide.

This is just the beginning. PM Nawaz Sharif might dodge this bullet, but next one and then the volley of them is fast coming.

Pakistani tweep predicted India, Pakistan scoreline 5 hours before match ended

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – A Pakistani tweep’s tweets have been making rounds all over the internet as he predicted the exact scorelines of the Pakistan vs India match on 15th February, around two hours before the Indian team had finished batting. The prediction made by him was so accurate that many started blaming him of having links with the bookies yet he himself denied having any knowledge of the final scoreline and said that it was just a prediction and he always knew that a weak Pakistani side would never be able to chase down such a big total.

Aslam Khan Tanoli who claims to be a supporter and worker of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has become an overnight star on the twitter and has now made a new prediction as well.

At 11:35 in the morning on Sunday, while India was still batting, Aslam predicted that India will score 300 and Pakistan will be all out for 220. The tweet may not have been taken seriously at the time it was tweeted yet when the scoreline proved his prediction correct (probably with an error margin +/- 5) some five and half hours later, entire social media was abuzz with his tweet.

PML-N vows to defend democracy

LAHORE: After Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s speech in Lahore on Saturday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has made a final decision to adopt a stern stand to defend democracy.

A strategy has been crafted to present the party’s point of view in the sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate starting on Monday (today) on issues such as the government’s performance, help to flood survivors, and Indian atrocities in disputed Kashmir.

Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting of the party leadership held at his Raiwind estate on Saturday. Attendees included central and provincial leaders of the party, including Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Parvez Rashid and Khawja Saad Rafiq.

The meeting had detailed consultations on the present political situation. Three adjournment motions submitted by the party in the National Assembly also figured in the discussions and a strategy was devised on how the party MPs will tackle issues in the Parliament.

The meeting decided that if democracy is threatened, the PML-N should be the first to come out into the field and face whatever the circumstances. A clear-cut stand will be taken on the Kashmir situation and voice will be raised in the parliament in support of the Kashmiri protesters, the party resolved.

Sharif told the meeting that his party had no differences with the federal government and if any threat to democracy emerged, the PML-N would be the first to put up defence for it. He added that the federal government should also take decisions according to the desires of the federation, respect institutions, including the judiciary, in order to bolster democracy.
